چکیده

The development and evaluation of large vocabulary , speaker-independent continuous speech recognition systems are mainly done for the American En-glish language. In this paper we present the work done to date in the development of an hybrid large vocabulary, speaker-independent continuous speech recognition system for the European Portuguese language. Due to the lack of a large appropriate speech and text database to be used in the development of that system we started collecting a large database and at the same time began developing a baseline system based on a smaller database. On this baseline system we applied techniques for automatic segmen-tation and labeling, in parallel with the development of a basic lexicon and language model for Portuguese. In the last part of this paper we also present the rst steps of our work over the new database.

A speaker biased SI recognizer for embedded mobile applications

Non-native and accent speakers often face problems when using a speaker-independent (SI) speech recognition system. Speaker adaptation has been a solution to make SI recognizer work better for individuals. Targeting embedded implementation and applications in fast changing mobile environments, we in this paper proposed a supervised speaker adaptation (SA) solution with low system resource consu...

Combining Speaker and Speech Re

This paper presents a general framework for the integration of speaker and speech recognizers. The framework poses the problem of combining speech and speaker recognizers as the joint maximization of the a posteriori probability of the word sequence and speaker given the observed utterance. It is shown that the posteriori probability can be expressed as the product of four terms: a likelihood s...

Development of a Speech Recognizer for the Dutch Language

This paper describes the development of a large vocabulary speaker independent speech recognizer for the Dutch language. The recognizer was build using Hidden Markov Toolkit and the Polyphone database of recorded Dutch speech. A number of systems have been build ranging from a simple monophone recognizer to a sophisticated system that uses backed-off triphones. The system has been tested using ...

An Isolated Letter Recognizer for Proper Name Identification Over the Telephone

Spelled letter recognition over the telephone line is essential for applications that involve names or addresses. In this paper we discuss the implementation and present results of a speaker independent spelled letter recognizer, trained and tested on the European project SPEECHDAT corpus. The system was implemented using HTK V2.0 (Hidden Markov Model Toolkit) software development tool and the ...

Continuous Speech Recognition at LIMSI

This paper presents some of the recent research on speaker-independent continuous speech recognition at LIMSI including efforts in phone and word recognition for both French and English. Evaluation of an HMMbased phone recognizer on a subset of the BREF corpus, gives a phone accuracy of 67.1% with 35 context-independent phone models and 74.2% with 428 context-dependent phone models. The word ac...
